Climate Data & Projections

Native Waters team members Dr. Michael Dettinger and Dr. Christine Albano have prepared climate data and projections for temperature, precipitation, and other metrics for multiple reservations in the Great Basin and Southwestern US.

The projections, which are constructed using 15 climate models and two emissions scenarios, extend through the year 2100 and show increases in temperature at all ten reservations, changes in precipitation that vary by location (wetter in northern locations/drier in southern locations), and increases in precipitation extremes (floods and droughts). Blackfeet Indian Reservation (MT)

Climate data and projections for the years 1950 – 2090 for: Annual end of growing season, annual growing season length, annual start of growing season, number of 2-yr storm events, number of 5-yr storm events, number of 10-yr storm events, number of frost-free days, annual day of first snowfall, annual growing degree days, annual number of hot days, annual maximum 3-day precipitation, annual number of dry days, total annual precipitation, annual precipitation intensity, annual average temperature, and snow precipitation.

Colorado River Indian Tribes (CRIT) Reservation (AZ)

Climate data and projections for temperature and precipitation from 1950 – 2100. These projections are constructed using 15 climate models and two emissions scenarios.

These files contain daily values from 1950 to 2005 in the historical files, and 2006 to 2099 or 2100 (depending on the model) for the rcp45 and rcp85 files. Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation (MT)

Climate data and projections for the years 1950 – 2090 for 3065ft and 6130ft elevation: Annual end of growing season, frost free days, growing degree days, growing season length, start of growing season, average temperature, number of 2-yr storm events, number of 5-yr storm events, number of 10-yr storm events, day of first snowfall, annual number of hot days, annual maximum 3-day precipitation, annual number of dry days, total annual precipitation, annual precipitation intensity, and snow precipitation. Also included in are csv files with the data.

Duck Valley Reservation (ID/NV)
